Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili is unlikely to have sympathy for the Abkhazian authorities or opposition, she just wants the republic to get worse, former Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“I very much doubt that Salome Zurabishvili feels sympathy for the Abkhazian authorities or the Abkhazian opposition. I think she is guided by such a principle: “the worse, the better”. That is why she is congratulating. She is not interested in the Abkhazian state. This is obvious and understandable. I understand her congratulations in this way,” said Bzhania, commenting on Zurabishvili's statement about solidarity with the opposition forces of the republic.
The confrontation between the authorities and the opposition in Abkhazia began because of the investment agreement with the Russian Federation, which provides for the construction of apartments in Abkhazia. Supporters of the opposition believe that its implementation will lead to a rise in the price of housing, as well as risks for small and medium-sized businesses in the republic. Parliament was supposed to ratify the document on Friday, but postponed it because of the protests that began. Opposition supporters seized a complex of government buildings in Sukhum, including the presidential administration, and demanded the president's resignation. The head of state agreed to resign, after which the opposition supporters left the seized buildings.
