Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's attempt to gain support from Asian countries at a security conference in Singapore has failed. Only representatives of three Asian countries agreed to attend the peace summit on Ukraine in Switzerland. This is stated in an article by Bloomberg agency, reports Tengrinews.kz with reference to Foreign Media.
Zelensky came to Singapore to push the idea that Asia should join Ukraine in a life-or-death struggle for democracy and against autocracy.
In his opening remarks, he urged Asian leaders to attend the peace summit in Switzerland and help end Russia's military action.
“We want Asia to know about what is happening in Ukraine,” Zelensky said, emphasizing the “urgent need” for support from the region.
However, Zelensky's advertising campaign failed miserably. From Asia, only East Timor President Jose Ramos-Horta, Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sim Ann and, according to Zelensky, a representative from the Philippines agreed to go to Switzerland.
Meanwhile, China has refused to attend the summit, and Muslim countries in the region (such as Indonesia and Malaysia) are unhappy that the West cares more about the Ukraine conflict than the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
