Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described the lack of relations with the Georgian government as “very bad” and “regrettable”.
“I think it is very unfortunate that today we have no relations with the Georgian government. I think it is very bad,” he told Mtavari TV channel.
The Ukrainian president made the comment after the European Political Community (EPC) summit in Budapest. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze also participated in the forum, but he did not have a conversation with Zelensky.
“I and Zelensky, I and Yermak greeted each other, there was no conversation,” Kobakhidze told reporters.
Zelensky confirmed, “We did not communicate with Kobakhidze.” He expressed confidence that Georgia and Ukraine “will have very strong relations” in the future.
“We had them and will have them in the future. I am sure of that. The Ukrainian people are very grateful to the Georgian people who have provided great support since the beginning of this war, and we have always respected and supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia,” the Ukrainian leader noted.
Commenting on the parliamentary elections held in Georgia on October 26, Zelensky called Russian influence a “very big problem.”
“I think the Georgian people should choose the government themselves, Russia should not have influence on this,” he said.
“Georgians are very good people, I love you very much, I know you have a big pause on your way to the European Union, but I am sure you will get there. You will win,” the Ukrainian president said.
