The name of the acting mayor in Armenia's second city is known

Sarik Minasyan will be appointed acting mayor of Gyumri based on the results of the preliminary elections held on December 8-10. According to the results of the elections, he gained 253 votes.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the intention to hold intra-party voting (primaries) to select the acting mayor of Gyumri, the first such process in the country's history. Voting would take place among members or associates of the Civil Pact party. Then a randomized vote will be held among the residents of Gyumri. Only after that will the acting mayor of the city be appointed.

The total number of ballots in the elections amounted to 1050, 34 were recognized invalid.

The votes between the candidates were distributed as follows: Levon Ananyan - 91, David Arushanyan - 220, Shavarsh Aramyan - 88, Sarik Minasyan - 253, Emma Vardanyan - 113, Vahagn Mkrtchyan - 138, Karen Sarukhanyan - 143.

Sarik Minasyan is a non-partisan. In 2018, he was elected a member of the Armenian Parliament on the list of the Enlightened Armenia party.

Recall, the mayor of the city Vardkes Samsonian, who represented the “Balasanyan” bloc, resigned. Together with him, 13 members of the Council of Elders resigned. This happened against the background of a criminal case against the founder of the bloc, former Mayor Samvel Balasanyan, who is accused of illegal alienation of lands around the “Black Fortress”. Balasanyan's son was also recently detained.

In this regard, Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan announced the holding of new elections in Gyumri, which, according to preliminary data, will be held in the spring of 2025.
