The President announced that now every year in Uzbekistan the first week of October will be marked as the Week of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression. This is due to the fact that 507 Uzbek political prisoners were sentenced between October 4 and 16, 1938.
On August 31, a commemoration ceremony for victims of repressions was held on the "Shahidlar Hotirasi" alley in Tashkent on the occasion of Uzbekistan's Independence Day. The event was attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of repressed and heroic ancestors.
The President noted that despite the past years, the restoration of historical truth and immortalization of the memory of repression victims remain the most important tasks of the state. More than 1,200 victims of political repression have been rehabilitated over the past three years, and the country is working to create a multi-volume book "Victims of Repression."
"The biggest school, the biggest education is history itself. Young people should know their history and take an example from their ancestors," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said. The President also emphasized the importance of educating the younger generation in the spirit of national values and historical truth, which, he said, is the key to a successful future of Uzbekistan.
The ceremony offered prayers in memory of the victims and emphasized the need for further research and popularization of history through modern means of communication.
