Russian security services say attempted hijacking of Tu-22M3 missile carrier

Russia has foiled an operation by Ukrainian security services to hijack a Tu-22M3 bomber, the Federal Security Service (FSB) has said.

In the course of operational actions, special services revealed that Ukrainian intelligence wanted to collect information about Russian combat aircraft, including flight numbers. In addition, a pilot of the Russian air force was threatened, demanding to set fire to combat equipment, the report claims.

It is noted that the Ukrainian special services also offered the pilot 3 million rubles and Italian citizenship.

"The FSB has foiled another attempt by Ukrainian special services to conduct an operation to hijack abroad a long-range strategic bomber Tu-22M3 of the Russian Air Force, the involvement of special services of NATO countries in its preparation and implementation has been uncovered," RIA Novosti quoted the statement of the FSB Public Relations Center as saying.
