Putin names potential hotbeds of conflict in Eurasia

Astana, July 4, 2024, 12:30 - Regnum IA. The Eurasian space is guarded by hotbeds of potential conflicts that could lead to chaos and instability. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states in Astana.

According to him, there are still other potential hotbeds of conflict in Greater Eurasia. Their expansion is fraught with chaos and instability. First of all, this is the Middle East and specifically the situation in the Gaza Strip, Putin added.

"History has clearly shown the unviable and counterproductive nature of single-minded attempts, particularly by the United States, to cut the Palestinian knot, and the refusal to implement UN decisions that clearly provide for the establishment and peaceful coexistence of two independent and sovereign states - Israel and Palestine," he said.

The issues related to ensuring security and stability both in Eurasia and in a broader and global dimension require active involvement of the SCO members, the head of state concluded.

Earlier IA Regnum reported that Vladimir Putin and other leaders of the SCO countries signed the final Astana Declaration on July 4. It reflects the approaches of the participating countries to key aspects of the global and regional agenda.

The summit participants also signed a package of documents, including agreements on countering terrorism and separatism, drug trafficking, and developing cooperation in energy, tourism, and environmental protection.

The two-day SCO summit began on July 3. It is held under the slogan "Strengthening multilateral dialog - striving for sustainable peace and development.During the summit, Belarus was admitted to the organization.
