Prospects of cooperation between Armenia and Uruguay discussed

The consistent development and expansion of bilateral cooperation between Armenia and Uruguay is very important. This was stated by Armenian Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Araxia Svajyan at the meeting with Aldo Rodriguez, Director of Language Policy of the National General Education Administration of Uruguay and Javier Poladian, Director of the Education Department of the AGBU Uruguayan Branch.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am was informed in the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia, it was noted that AGBU, represented by its Uruguayan branch, initiated the process of teaching Armenian as a foreign language, which is carried out under the auspices of the Government of Uruguay within the framework of the strategy of supporting the teaching of foreign languages. In particular, by joint efforts of AGBU and the National General Education Administration of Uruguay a textbook for teaching Armenian as a foreign language was developed and tested, which is also used in the non-Armenian schools of Uruguay. To that end, the sides discussed the possibility of developing the teachers' skills, as well as the implementation of exchange programs.

In his turn, Rodriguez mentioned the importance of the potential of the Armenian community of Uruguay in the context of establishing long-term relations and preserving traditions.

He also informed that an essay contest was held in the secondary schools of Uruguay within the framework of the events commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The essay “Between Recognition and Silence” written by 17-year-old Romina Fajardo was recognized the best.

During the meeting, the sides also touched upon the online English language teaching program for IDP women from Nagorno-Karabakh, implemented by the Uruguayan branch of AGBU and the National General Education Administration of Uruguay. The possibility of localizing the program in secondary vocational schools was also discussed.
