President of Kazakhstan Hasmu Dzhomart Tokayev held an emergency meeting on the emergency situation in several regions of the country due to floods, the press service of the presidential administration informed.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Volezhas Bekzhanov, all members of the Government Cabinet, the Head of the Presidential Administration and other high-ranking officials.
The head of state was briefed on the measures being carried out in response to the current flood situation in various parts of the country, in particular rescue operations for people in flood-affected regions and follow-up measures aimed at eliminating the effects of the floods.
President Tokayev criticised the central and local governments for negligence and unprofessionalism in their work, noting that the flood disaster has highlighted the lack of systematic communication measures between the central government and local functionaries.
Hasmudzomart Tokayev regretted the huge property losses caused by the flood disaster to the people in the affected areas and apologised profusely to the people in this regard. The President emphasised that the state will provide comprehensive assistance to all those affected by the disaster.
For failing to take timely and energetic measures in response to the floods, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government, Roman Skaryar, and the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurgigtov, received a serious warning from the Head of State.
The governors of Aktobe, Kostanai and Sikha oblasts were given warnings for failing to properly fulfil their duties.
The Governors of the Atyrau, Akmola, Almaty, Pavlodar and Abai oblasts received serious warnings.
