Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a meeting with Michael Carpenter, Special Assistant to the US President and Director for European Affairs of the National Security Council, confirmed Yerevan's readiness to sign a peace treaty with Baku, the press service of the Armenian Cabinet reports.
“Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia's readiness to sign a peace treaty (with Azerbaijan - ed.) on the basis of already agreed articles and continue further discussions. He expressed confidence that the signing of the treaty will contribute to mutual trust and will give a positive impetus for reaching agreement on other issues,” the statement said.
According to the press service, Carpenter handed Biden's letter to Pashinyan. He stressed that the United States welcomes Armenia's focus and steps to establish peace and stability, stressed the importance of the border delimitation process and the signing of the provision on the activities of the Armenian and Azerbaijani delimitation commissions, and reaffirmed the readiness of the United States to further promote peace and stability in the region.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the possibilities of unblocking regional communications. Carpenter expressed the US support for Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the report says.
Issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed during the meeting, the press service emphasized.
In 2022, Yerevan and Baku, mediated by Russia, the United States and the EU, began discussing a future peace treaty. In late May last year, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Yerevan was ready to recognize Azerbaijan's sovereignty within the Soviet borders, i.e. together with Karabakh.
