Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held a meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council, the Uzbek leader's press service reported.
“At the Kuksaroy residence, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyeva and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a meeting in a narrow composition and the first session of the Supreme Interstate Council,” the Uzbek leader's website said.
Mirziyoyev noted that today the parties will sign the Treaty on Allied Relations.
“Literally for several years we have managed to raise Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations to the highest level of interstate interaction,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
In addition, the sides agreed to declare next year the Year of Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan and adopt a program covering 20 priority areas.
“The sides welcomed the results of the business forum held the previous day: a portfolio of promising projects worth over $2 billion has been formed. We are talking about cooperation in energy, chemical, mining, textile industries, agriculture, urban development and other areas,” the press service said.
The head of Uzbekistan suggested launching a mechanism of regular meetings of rectors of leading universities of the two countries, as well as holding a joint media forum.
The sides also discussed the prospects of building tourist-business complexes in our capitals in order to increase mutual tourist flow, humanitarian and business exchanges.
