Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg is trying to cut into the schedule of opposition rallies in Tbilisi with her agenda.
Thunberg, who has been in Georgia for a week, decided to hold a demonstration on Monday against “the wave of authoritarianism in the Caucasus.” The gathering is at 7 p.m., in Pushkin Square on Freedom Square.
“Join the rally to unite against the wave of authoritarianism and exploitation that is spreading across the Caucasus region...We stand for real freedom, equality, justice and a region where people come first, not profit,” Thunberg wrote on Instagram.
According to her, “The Caucasian feminist anti-war movement demands a future free from the stranglehold of authoritarianism, war and capitalist greed.”
Here she also criticizes a climate conference that opens Monday in Azerbaijan. According to Thunberg, “Azerbaijan, using COP29 as a facade, is increasing its control under a fake green agenda, tightening its grip on power and increasing regional tensions.”
How long Thunberg plans to stay in Georgia is unknown at this time.
