Georgian prosecutor's office summoned the country's president for questioning

On October 31, the Georgian Prosecutor's Office summoned the country's President Salome Zurabishvili for questioning because of her statements about the alleged falsification of the October 26 parliamentary elections.

“According to the CEC statement and information spread in the media, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili must have evidence of possible falsification of the 2024 parliamentary elections. Therefore, according to the law, on October 31 this year, the Georgian president was summoned to the investigative body for questioning,” reads the statement published on the website of the oversight agency.

Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 26. According to the CEC, the ruling Georgian Dream party, which favors preserving relations with Russia and opposes anti-Russian sanctions, won 53.93% of the vote. Four opposition parties also passed into parliament, receiving a total of 37.78%. Opposition representatives have already said they do not recognize the CEC data. Pascal Alizar, special co-ordinator of the OSCE short-term mission, noted the good organization of the elections in Georgia, but said there were a number of violations recorded by observers. President Salome Zurabishvili, who is helping the pro-European opposition despite the fact that the constitution requires the president to be non-partisan, called for protests.
