Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze begins his visit to Hungary, where he will attend the European Political Community (EPC) summit together with EU leaders, which is an important format and mechanism of rapprochement, Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said.
The fifth European Political Community summit will start on November 7 in the Hungarian capital Budapest, as Hungary holds the rotating presidency of the EU Council until the end of 2024. Leaders of the EU, its member states and other European states have been invited to the summit. A total of 47 states are scheduled to attend.
“The Georgian Prime Minister begins his visit to Hungary, where he will participate in the European Political Community meeting attended by leaders of EU member states and candidate countries, which in general is a very important format that was created on the initiative of President Macron,” Iliya Darchiashvili said.
This is one of the very interesting mechanisms for the countries politically associated with the European Union to get closer to each other, the Foreign Minister emphasized.
The main topic of discussion at the fifth summit of the European Political Community is the challenges of security in Europe.
As the Georgian government press service reported earlier, the summit will include thematic discussions on migration and economic security, communications, energy and transportation, information technology and global trade.
The Georgian prime minister is scheduled to speak at a panel discussion, the main topic of which will be economic security and connectivity.
Kobakhidze will attend the summit together with a delegation that includes Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Head of the Government Administration Levan Jorjoliani.
The concept of the European Political Community belongs to French President Emmanuel Macron and its creation was announced in May 2022. The community includes 27 EU member states, as well as the Western Balkan countries, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the UK, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
