Georgian government dismisses five ambassadors to Europe at once

The Government of Georgia relieves from their posts the Ambassadors to Europe: in Switzerland and Great Britain, as well as Georgia's representatives to the UN, NATO and other international organizations in Geneva.

The order was signed today by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

➖Viktor Dolidze will leave the post of Georgia's representative to NATO on September 21;

➖Revaz Lominadze will finish his work as Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation on October 1;

➖Alexander Maisuradze will be dismissed from the post of post of the Ambassador to the UN offices and other international organizations in Geneva on October 1;

➖Sofo Katsarava is to leave the posts of Georgia's Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization on October 15.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry stated that the reason for the diplomats' release was the expiration of their terms of office and planned rotation.

The ambassadors have not made any statements at the moment.

According to Georgian law, the term of a diplomatic mission for ambassadors is four years, although the MFA can extend it. The government's decision to dismiss the ambassadors must be signed by President Zurabishvili.

Earlier in May this year, Georgia's ambassador to France, Gocha Javakhishvili, himself resigned amid complications in relations with Western partners. “ I do not see my role and resources in this direction: to move towards Europe and at the same time protect myself from Europe,” Javakhishvili said.

In June, President Salome Zurabishvili accused the government of betraying the professionalism of Georgian diplomats and called on the diplomatic corps to “make a choice.”
