Georgian Dream premier reiterates possible reset of relations with US

Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has reiterated the reset of relations with the United States.

According to him, official Tbilisi counts on “real partnership, not on paper.”

“We are ready to start talking about it with the new administration,” Kobakhidze said.

At the same time, he expressed hope that “the new administration will not make demands that contradict the values of Georgian society.” Kobakhidze did not explain what exactly we are talking about and what claims Washington should remove from the agenda.

The US under the Biden administration announced about revision of relations with Georgia due to “backsliding from democracy”. Washington recently announced the suspension of strategic partnership due to the actions of Georgia's ruling party.

Recently, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, who supports the opposition and pro-European protests, met with future US President Donald Trump in Paris. She reported that there was a “deep conversation” with Trump as well as French President Emmanuel Macron.
