Former head of Armenian Emergencies Ministry sentenced to 4 years and 5 months in prison

Armenia's former Minister of Emergency Situations Andranik Piloyan has been sentenced to arrest for 4 years and 5 months.


The corresponding decision was made by the Anti-Corruption Criminal Court, the court's press service told Sputnik Armenia.


He was found guilty of abuse of power, bribery on a large scale, fraud on a large scale committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.


To remind, Andranik Piloyan, being the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, was arrested on March 31, 2022. This was the first case of arrest of the acting minister in the history of the republic. In October 2022 Piloyan was released from the pre-trial detention center on $36,500 bail.


According to the investigation, Piloyan, with the assistance of his assistant, received a large bribe from a company cooperating with the ministry. During the search in the office of Piloyan's assistant weapons and ammunition were found.
