Former deputy head of the Georgian State Security Service Soso Gogashvili decided to make the most of five years of imprisonment and get another higher education.
Gogashvili passed his exams and enrolled in Javakhishvili TSU to study law, with 100% state funding.
“My father studied in a cell, prepared without the help of a teacher, with the help of exam notebooks sent by us...Even if you find yourself in an unfair reality and 'people' will try to destroy you and your family, you should always find strength, never stop,” his daughter Nini Gogashvili wrote on social media.
Gogashvili already has a higher education in economics and a degree in international relations.
Soso Gogashvili was deputy head of the State Security Service in 2015-2018. He was a member of the Georgian Dream but left it in 2020.
He was arrested in July 2022. Hours before he promised leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream party to release the revelations. On Facebook, Gogashvili wrote that he had evidence of fraudulent parliamentary elections.
A couple of days before Gogashvili's detention, a recording of an editorial meeting at the opposition Mtavari TV company was made public. It shows that Soso Gogashvili provided secret materials for journalistic investigations of “Mtavari”, as well as other opposition channels. Mtavari journalists themselves recognized the authenticity of the recording and say that they were wiretapped illegally.
Gogashvili was sentenced to five years for illegal acquisition, possession and carrying of firearms, abuse of office and dissemination of personal information or personal data. The case is marked classified.
Gogashvili considers himself a political prisoner and periodically writes open exposé letters on various high-profile cases.
