Farmers' march, refugee action and Saburtalo residents' march - 26th day of protests in Georgia

Georgia has entered a protest week ahead of New Year's Eve.

Monday is the 26th day of protests after the government announced a freeze on EU accession talks.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili is expected to make a statement on her next steps during the day. Earlier, she declared herself the only legitimate representative of the government and demanded to set a date for new parliamentary elections by December 29. The Georgian Dream threatened her with possible arrest.

Monday's protests are not expected to be as numerous as last weekend - mobilization and preparations for large-scale actions later in the week are underway.

🔹 In Tbilisi, the day began with a picket outside the main prosecutor's office demanding the release of detained protesters.

🔹 During the day there will be a pro-European march of parents of Waldorf school students, a march of farmers, a march of children of Georgian emigrants, and a refugee action.

🔹 Today a series of marches in Tbilisi districts will resume - residents of Saburtalo will come out to protest at 18:00, gathering at the subway station Meduniversity.

🔹Protests in Tbilisi will be supported by the graduates of elite mathematics schools named after Komarov and named after Kovarova. Komarov and Vekua math schools and philosophers. Vekua and philosophers.

In Kutaisi, the rally will gather at 19:00 near the City Hall, in Batumi at the same time - at the Constitutional Court.

Migrants will support the protests in Georgia from Barcelona, they will gather at 11:30 at Passeig de Gràcia,7.

Since November 28, daily rallies and protest marches have been held in Georgia demanding new parliamentary elections, and a demand for the release of those detained at the rallies has been added - 31 people have been charged under the Criminal Code and face serious sentences.

“Georgian Dream” ignores the protests and refuses to admit that tens of thousands of people come out on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi. The ruling party has been claiming lately that the media is showing last year's footage.

Meanwhile, December 29 is approaching, the day of inauguration of the new Georgian Dream president, who is not recognized by the opposition and fifth president Salome Zurabishvili. Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has threatened Zurabishvili with arrest if she does not vacate the residence by December 29. Zurabishvili responds by saying she is “not going anywhere.”

Western partners regularly make statements condemning the actions of the Georgian Dream for rolling back democracy, and several sanctions packages have been introduced. But so far neither the US nor the EU have indicated their attitude to a possible situation of dual power in Georgia.
