Even Azerbaijan has recognized Nagorno-Karabakh's right to self-determination, while Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is trying to reject it, Aram Manukyan, deputy chairman of the Armenian National Congress party and former MP, told Sputnik Armenia.
The day before, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the government hour in parliament that the Karabakh movement should not continue. According to him, the movement was used to prevent the establishment of Armenian statehood.
“The world has been recognizing the right to self-determination of peoples for 100 years. In general, there are two “languages” of conflict resolution in the world - the right to self-determination and territorial integrity. And the Karabakh movement was based on the right to self-determination,” Manukyan said.
According to him, Azerbaijan recognized this right fully, documentally. By Heydar Aliyev's decrees, delegations were formed for negotiations with the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
“That is, even Baku recognized self-determination and negotiated with Nagorno-Karabakh. Even in Soviet times, the NKAO existed on the basis of self-determination. All countries accept this, and he rejects this principle,” Manukyan said.
According to the MP, Pashinyan purposefully destroys the right to self-determination, rejecting one of the most important humanitarian principles.
Manukyan noted that the prime minister is thus trying to find a justification for the destruction of civilization in Nagorno-Karabakh - through destroying the principle of the right to self-determination.
“What can one discuss about with a frivolous person? He has no logic, he doesn't know history, he doesn't know anything. If someone says to him in his forehead, reminds him how he defended this principle as a journalist and at rallies, what will he answer? Where has it all gone? He contradicts himself, behaves like the last scandalist,” he said.
The politician believes that one should be the very last person to reject the liberation struggle of his own people.
Manukyan noted that it is difficult to respond within the framework of censorship to Pashinyan's hysterical speech and the words he uses.
According to him, such a policy of the prime minister can lead to new upheavals and damage Armenia. All this may end in an internal explosion.
“This holy [Karabakh] movement made the whole nation, the whole Diaspora stand up. The whole world defended this principle,” said the deputy chairman of the Armenian National Congress party.
However, if the Armenian authorities themselves reject the right to self-determination, the Armenian Genocide and the protection of their international rights, then, according to him, no one in the world will prevent it.
