The former Armenian President noted that today's authorities are on the way of forgetting the Artsakh problem.
YEREVAN, September 2 - Sputnik. Artsakh issue should return to the agenda of international relations, Armenia's third president Serzh Sargsyan believes.
“Whoever, ignoring the rights and the possibility of the return of Artsakh Armenians, considers the page of the Armenian Artsakh closed, blatantly serves the interests of the enemy promoting this absurd point of view, disgraces the memory of those who fell in the name of Artsakh, neglects the sacred cause of the overwhelming majority of our people, who fought for the right to live freely and independently, suffered indescribable hardships,” his message on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) reads.
The former President believes that success can be achieved by making sufficient efforts, working purposefully and using all possible methods. He noted that the Artsakh Armenians have the right to return on decent conditions, and there are international mechanisms for the realization of their inalienable rights in the created situation.
“Undoubtedly, in this issue, first of all, it is necessary to conduct interested work at the state level and from the position of protection of national interests, for which it is important to have a government with such understanding. Unfortunately, today's authorities are on the way of forgetting the Artsakh problem. They deny it,” Sargsyan's address says.
According to him, the civilized world, which upholds fundamental human rights and freedoms, cannot and should not remain indifferent to the issue of depatriation and forced eviction of a significant part of the Armenian people, who lived in their homeland for thousands of years.
The former President of Armenia reminded that Artsakh was proclaimed independent on September 2, 1991 in accordance with all legal and international norms in force at that time.
