The Armenian Court of Cassation has accepted the complaint of the lawyers of former Defense Minister David Tonoyan. This was reported by lawyer Andranik Manukyan on social media.
“I would like to inform that the Court of Cassation has accepted the cassation complaints in the case of David Tonoyan - mine and lawyers Lusine Sahakyan and Yervand Varosyan,” the lawyer said.
According to Manukyan, in his complaint he, among others, raised issues related to the fact that the decisions of the Court of Cassation of 2024 (on the unilateral application of Part 7 of Article 483 of the CPC of Armenia and on the legality of detention) do not touch upon the issue of the legality of detention of his client.
Earlier, the court decided to release the former Armenian Defense Minister from arrest on bail of $37.5 thousand. He had been in custody since September 2021 on charges of purchasing unsuitable aircraft missiles.
Former Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces Artak Davtyan, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff Stepan Galstyan, former Head of the Aviation Department of the RA Ministry of Defense Avetik Muradyan, Head of the Aviation Technical Property Service of the Aviation Department of the RA Ministry of Defense Artem Hambaryan, Chief Engineer of the Aviation Department of the RA Ministry of Defense Vladimir Babayan and businessman David Galstyan, who is involved in arms deals, are also accused in this case. The investigation accuses them of involvement in the purchase of unsuitable aircraft missiles and embezzlement of $4.6 million. They do not admit their guilt.
