Armenia has started buying more electric cars since the beginning of 2024

Less than 5,000 cars were imported in the whole of 2023, and more than 4,800 in January-July 2024.

YEREVAN, August 26 - Sputnik. In the first 7 months Armenia has exhausted about 65% of the annual duty-free quota for electric cars. Thus, only 2,563 cars are left out of the annual quota of 7,400.

Under the said quota, agreed within the Eurasian Union, cars from third countries can be imported without customs duty.

For the convenience of car buyers, the State Revenue Committee publishes information on the quota balance on a monthly basis.

It should be noted that in previous years Armenia did not fully exhaust the quota of the EAEU, so, in 2023, with a quota of 8 thousand, less than 5 thousand cars were imported (for comparison, in January-July 2024 - more than 4 800).

By the decision of the EEC Council, duty-free import of electric cars until the end of 2025 was approved in all EAEU countries, except Russia.

Cars imported to the remaining four countries of the Union will be subject to duty if they are sold to citizens or residents of the Russian Federation. The Russian government gave up duty-free imports to develop its own production.
