All obligations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization towards Armenia are preserved. This was stated by Imangali Tasmagambetov, Secretary General of the organization, during a video bridge at Sputnik Armenia multimedia platform.
According to him, the recent format of relations between Armenia and the organization is primarily the decision of Armenia's military-political leadership. As it is known, Yerevan has announced freezing membership in the structure, but at the same time it does not object to the adoption of the final documents.
Answering Sputnik Armenia's question, the Secretary General noted that Yerevan's non-participation in the discussion of issues does not affect the effectiveness of the structure.
“...Nevertheless, we proceed from the fact that, Armenia is our ally. And all our obligations towards Armenia remain. It can return to full participation in the organization at any time, there are no returns,” Tasmagambetov added.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said several times that the country had frozen its participation in the CSTO. In September this year, Pashinyan also called the CSTO a “security threat” to Armenia and said that the point of no return in relations with the organization had been passed. The Kremlin reacted to this high-profile statement. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov disagreed with the Armenian prime minister's assessment, stressing that the CSTO poses no threat: on the contrary, the organization is designed to protect the sovereignty of its member states.
